Jill and Jerry were married on September 12th.  They were married in the same church as my husband and I were 10 years ago.  I always love to go back to my hometown for a wedding, and I finally got to take some photos in one my favourite places in the world, the beach near Little Port Harmon.  Her flowers were stunning, and I think was the most unique  I have seen to date.

It has been a little while since I posted last, but I am slowly catching up and am actually editing sessions from October now!  I have been meaning to post a few from this session from August.  I have a few more posts coming this week.

These two boys were so sweet with their little sister.   And she was a darling to photograph.  We were out in the backyeard for a few near sunset and the light coming through the trees was very soft and beautiful.  I think this is my favourite time of day to have a session.

Trina: Just beautiful!!!

One of my favourite subjects to photograph is newborns.  I love their squishy skin, their pouty lips, their tiny toes… everything!  Although a newborn session typically lasts longer than other sessions (as babies need feedings, changings and yes they sometimes even cry for awhile) but it is sooo worth that extra time.

This little jewel was just as precious as her big sister was when I photographed her an a newborn two years ago.  And such a full head of hair!  She was nice and sleepy too, which is great for getting newborns into interesting positions.  I was even successful with the “stork baby” pose which I have attempted in the past, but have previously failed.

Happy Fall

October 1, 2009

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons.  Although you very well may hear me say that about Summer, Winter and Spring as well.  I guess I love all the seasons and the changes they bring.  Every fall as I wind down from wedding season and start preparing for the holiday rush of Christmas cards and gifts, I get inquries about when I am availalbe for travelling out of town.  In past years I have been quite unorganized in planning dates etc., however with my new blog I figured I would plan a couple of weekends in the city to meet the demand for session requests, and as well to fulfill my need to go shopping (and maybe even to a movie!)

That said, I will be travelling to St. John’s for sessions the weekend of the 17th of October as well as the 7th of November.  I have limited number of sessions remaining for these two dates, however if you are  interested please be sure to contact me.

And since no blog post would be complete without sharing an image or two, here are a few photos I took of my children while we were on vacation this summer.  They look like they were cooperative and easy going in these photos, but I assure you that this was no easy task that  took the hard work of 4 (yes 4) adults to keep them in their places, stop them from crying and chasing Philip on one of his numerous attempts to run away from it all.

Lisa Doyle: Dawn, these are wicked! They looked so relaxed.. LOL! You have very beautiful children.

Angela and Kris were wed on a glorious day in August.  The last of my August weddings before crossing over the gulf for our annual summer vacation in New Brunswick.   I have had the pleasure of travelling to Port aux Basques a number of times the last few years, and every time I go I discover a new part of it that I love.  Grand Bay beach provides a stunning backdrop for wedding photos, and the lighting on this evening was just right.

I always love photographing the children who participate in weddings, however when I caught a glimpse of these three girls playing in the ocean while I was photographing the bride and groom, I instantly turned my attention to them for a few moments, knowing right away that I would capture an image that I would love for a long long time.

Jeanette LeBlanc: Dawn-Marie. What to say but...you rock.

Tonia and John were wedded on August 21.

Their ceremony took place outdoors at the Grand Falls-Windsor golf club.  It was a gorgeous sunny day… just right for an outdoor wedding!  The location for the ceremony was not too far from one of the holes.  Having only their photographs on my mind, I of course choose what I though was to be an ideal location to be able to catch everyone as they walked out, and as well have a good view of the bride and groom.  It wasn’t long before it was pointed out to me that I was standing in the direct path of the green.  Luckily, someone was willing to stand guard behind me, as a few golfers were approaching that hole.  I was nearly hit once, but I was able to get the shots Iwanted from that location.

The golf course provided golf course for the bridal to use to travel around the course in search of the best locations.  With the help of one of their employees (thanks Peter!) we found some great spots.

The Grand Falls-Windsor golf course clubhouse has also been recently renovated, and proved to be a beautiful venue for Tonia and John’s wedding reception.  The meal was delicious and the view was breathtaking.   Hope you get to see these before you leave for Vegas tomorrow Tonia.  Enjoy!

lisa norman: Beautiful pictures Tonia & John.

Lorna and Andrew were married on August 15th in Harry’s Harbour.  They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony right beside a lovely apple tree that was planted by Lorna’s grandfather, next to her family home.  We gathered underneath that tree for a number of the portraits that were taken that day.  I had the pleasure of meeting Lorna and Andrew last year for their engagement session.  I fell in love with harry’s Harbour then and was thrilled to return for their wedding this year.  Apple tree to the right of them and the ocean just beyond them, there were no shortage of gorgeous backgounds to choose from.  We even went to the famous Harry’s Harbour pinnacle for a few photos.

The reception took place at the Riverwood Inn in Springdale.  This wasn’t my first time there, and once again it proved to be a lovely reception venue.  I love photographing the details of the reception, and had lots of fun putting together this blog post.

I am still pretty far behind in my editing, but am slowly catching up.  This week I have made a lot of progress making up from my previous weeks of back to school madness.  I am jumping ahead a little in my sneak peeks as  Jillian and Steve would like to view a few of their photos together before Steve has to go away.  Jillian looked lovely in her gold coloured gown, while Steve looked dapper in his top hat.  Enjoy your sneak peek guys, I hope it doesn’t take me toomuch longer to catch up and finish the rest of your wedding!

Bev: They are all absolutely beautiful!!!

Gary: Loves 'em!!!

Jillian: I love them...thank you for getting them up before Steve leaves...again thank you and can`t wait to see the rest....!!!

And by them I mean me!  One of my favourite things to photograph during a wedding is the cake.  I have always loved cake, and especially a cake that looks good too.  My new favourite television show [that I watch while I edit ;) ] is The Cake Boss.  Just saying the word cake makes my mouth water.  So yeah, don’t forget to offer your friend wedding photographer a piece of delicious cake!

The buzz at many weddings of course is:  “Who made your cake?”  While some brides have talented relatives who put together wonderful cakes, many brides in Central Newfoundland turn to Kim Best of Botwood.  Her cakes are fabulous as seen here (this is the cake she made for April’s wedding.  Oh! she also made April’s fabulous veil).   Kim has also recenlty made a cake that was all the rave at my son’s Pokemon themed birthday party (photo to follow – when I actually remove it from the camera).  Other samples of her creations can be viewed on Kim’s website.

I had the pleasure of photographing April when she was pregnant with her daughter two years ago, and again when her daughter was born.  I was thrilled to be asked to photograph her wedding as well.  April and Keith had a beautiful day.  There was a whole lot of love and laughter between these two as well as their family and friends.   April was a beautiful bride who was just beaming all day long.  It was a fun wedding, complete with a visit from Elvis himself.
